This is Liesl.
Liesl, the namesake of Silver Hound Studios, is a Silver Lab who loves to eat, go for walks, chase balls and chew on sticks. She also likes to hog all of the covers at night.
This is Pepsi … and Me.
Pepsi is a 21 year old Chestnut Quarter Horse who is my feisty and opinionated sidekick. We like to ride bareback on the hills of Southern Alberta and we pretend to do dressage on the side.
My name is Robin and I exclusively photograph pets and horses. I have been photographing animals for over ten years now and have earned accreditations in Animals and Animal Portraiture from the Professional Photographers of Canada. Photographing pets and horses is my passion.

Common Questions and Concerns
Can you still get good photographs if my dog won’t sit?
Yes, sooner or later your pet will slow for a second or two and that is long enough to get our picture. If they are overly energetic we can start with action shots.My dog can’t be off leash, is that okay?
Typically animals will need to have their collars and leashes on during the session, but these can be digitally removed from the final pictures. We have long leashes for those running and jumping shots as well. Harnesses however, tend to be difficult to remove satisfactorily so they will generally need to remain in the final image.My dog doesn’t like other animals, can we still photograph them?
There are plenty of out of the way places that we can go to photograph your dog. There are also dog parks that can be rented out by the hour that we can use so that your pet will be the only dog around.There are no pretty places to take pictures at my barn. Will I have to haul out?
No matter where your horse lives, I am confident that we can find at least one place that will be suitable. Even if you have a covered building with a large doorway or a pasture we are good. Just trust me on this.My horse may not stand still. Will we need help?
I hear you. It’s quite amazing how cooperative they can get if you make strange noises or bribe them with treats, but sometimes it really helps to ask a horse friend to help out. Try to schedule your session outside of feed times if your horse is not on a round bale. If your mare is having an exceptionally bad mare day we can always reschedule.What are the options for location?
Location can be entirely up to you. We can photograph outside, at your barn or home, or in my photography studio. If you have chosen an outdoor location and the weather is uncooperative, you have the option to either reschedule or to either photograph in your home or in the studio. A travel surcharge may apply if you wish to have your session occur greater than 25km outside of the City of Calgary limits.
For their safety, pets are always photographed on a leash. Leashes (and humans) are removed though the magic of photoshop during the final editing process.
Comparison between before and after editing
Can I be in the pictures and can there be more than one pet (horse) in a session?
Yes, to both. The bond between you and your pet is something to be celebrated and more than one animal is welcome.Can I just buy the high resolution digitals?
Of course, but I would encourage you to consider ordering wall art or at the very least professional prints of your photographs. Files sitting on hard drives can become corrupted or lost. (I have had that happen more than once. Thank goodness my hard drives are backed up!)Do you offer payment plans?
We can arrange a payment plan for you if this would make it easier for you to get the products that you love.If I want to order more pictures at a later date can I do this?
I keep all files on my hard drives for a minimum of a year. If you think that you might need them kept longer than that, please just let me know.What if I don’t like any of the photographs?
Your satisfaction is my highest priority and I either do another photography session or refund your reservation retainer fee.What if I don’t like my artwork products?
I want you to be completely happy with your artwork, if you are not I will buy back it back from you.~Working Together~
Your Photography Experience
01.
Initial Consultation
During consultation we will discuss your goals for your photography session and hopefully get to meet your pet or horse.
If you decide that we are a good fit and you want to go ahead with a session we will move on to the booking process setting the location, date and time for your photoshoot. We can also provide you with a guide to help your pet look its best on the big day. Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have about the experience or concerns regarding your pet. The consultation can be held in person, on the phone or over Zoom.02.
Session
We meet at our agreed upon location and the fun starts! We promise that your session will be relaxed and stress free for you and fun for your pet.
No formal posing is required and there are lots of play breaks and snacks. Don’t worry if the session is to be held outside and the weather doesn’t cooperate as we can just reschedule for another day or decide to do the session in the studio.03.
Reveal Appointment
Either in person or via Zoom, we will guide you through the selection process offering advice on the best ways to display and preserve your pet photos.
Like you we value choice. Design your own package, order al la carte or just buy the high res digitals. It’s up to you!04.
Artwork Delivery
The big day is here! We will contact you to set up a time for us to personally deliver your artwork to you.
We want to ensure that you receive it in perfect condition and we want to see the look on your face when you see your artwork for the first time. If desired, we can arrange for wall pieces to be expertly hung in your chosen location. All that is left to do is to enjoy your memories!
“Our family fosters kitties for the Meow Foundation. Once they’re old enough for adoption, a foster parent’s job is to submit a photo of each kitten for the adoption website. We had some gorgeous kitties in our last batch and photos from my phone just weren’t doing them justice. So I asked Robin to help with the photos. She did a great job managing the kitties and providing a nice environment for them to be photographed. But more importantly, the resulting photos were stunning.
